ARTIST STATEMENT:  

Katrin Smith is an award winning artist living in Ottawa, Ontario.   Bold, simple, utterly contemporary - these are the words that describe the artwork of Katrin Smith.   Katrin is a full time professional artist who creates sleek, industrial style abstract paintings perfect for today's modern residential or commercial environment.  She is strongly drawn to the abstract and the power it has to provoke thought and push the limits of our imagination.  As an abstract artist, Katrin's artwork depicts her experiences and emotions.   Capturing the essence of these moments is what informs her visual artistry.  

Katrin is also a fine art printmaker creating original, one-of-a-kind fine art etchings, monotypes, lithographs, drypoints, linocuts and collographs.   An original fine art print is an image that has been conceived and executed by the artist solely as a print and has no relation whatsoever to a copy or reproduction.   It is the physicality and practicality of method and materials that she finds so appealing about fine art printmaking.   Her unique visual style is most often organic with geometric forms and random mark making.   One of Katrin's goals is to bring awareness to printmaking as a fine art form by exhibiting at local exhibitions and participating in international printmaking competitions.

Katrin's art is held in private collections in Canada, the United States and Europe.
